In a world of ultra violence, sheer clumsiness, and forgetfulness when it comes to such simple tasks as plugging your mobile phone in to charge, the newly announced Samsung E2370 X-treme, yes with a hypen between the first two letters, stands above the rest as a mobile phone for our generation.
Gone are features such as GPS or even a touch screen, but what you do get for 130 EUR ($170) is an IP-54 certified (dust and water proof) device with a huge 2000 mAh battery that promises over 2 months of standby time. 67 days to be precise.
Going skiing? Or to the Amazon? Feeling like faking your own death and living in a cabin in the middle of no where, eating squirrels and playing with a hand made guitar as a way to avoid paying your taxes and giving Uncle Sam the finger? This phone is for you. You may go blind staring at the 1.77 inch screen that has a resolution of 128 x 160, but at least you’ll be able to Bluetooth annoying ringtones and naughty pictures with other people thanks to full Bluetooth 2.1 functionality. You even get an FM radio, MP3 player, and support for EDGE in case you have the urge to do some emailing. There’s a VGA camera of dubious quality, and it does video, but don’t expect fantastic results.
Phones like this may not sell too well, but we all know someone in our family or in our circle of friends, who go through mobile phones like they were some how going to go extinct in the coming weeks. Back to school season is coming up, pick them up one of these. Or if they’re old … well do you really need an excuse to give something to a loved one?
Devices simliar to this one are the Nokia 3720 Classic or any of the two models that Sonim sells.
