Verizon is a hot carrier for Android right now, but globetrotters are a little bummed that none of its current Android handsets are world phones. It looks like one might be on the way from HTC, and it features a large touchscreen coupled with a physical QWERTY keyboard. The unnamed handset has all the labeling and branding of a Verizon device, that is, well, it says Verizon on it and it’s rumored to be launching in early 2011.
Given the time frame, the device will undoubtedly be released with Android 2.2 at the very least, or perhaps 3.0 or Gingerbread. It’s said to have a 4″ screen and a 1.2GHz processor, but since it’s a long way ’til release there’s a chance that specs can change. This prototype is said to be a world phone because a Vodafone SIM card was in it, so no doubts there about the dual CDMA/GSM capabilities.
There isn’t a whole lot to be said about this phone right now: it’s about the same size of the HTC EVO 4G, but a smaller screen at 4″ versus the EVO’s 4.3″ display. At least we know that HTC will still be cranking out some awesome Android handsets and it seems likely that there are plenty of exciting ones in the pipeline.
