Verizon is making its very first Chinese made handset official: the ZTE Salute. Sure, it’s not as glitzy and glamorous as the Droid Incredible or the Droid X, but for those who don’t need all the bells and whistles of a smartphone, the Salute might be a decent ticket. The slider handset is very basic and doesn’t have a full QWERTY keyboard, so it’s clearly for users who just want to make phone calls, text messages and maybe a few extras here and there.
The ZTE Salute has a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Verizon Navigator and access to Social Beat, Verizon’s social networking application. If you’re looking to grab a handset that isn’t so flashy and does the very few things you need like making calls and sending and receiving text messages, the ZTE Salute will only set you back $20 after a mail in rebate on a two year contract.
