Placecast, Location Labs team-up to deliver ShopAlerts to over 180 million handsets in the U.S.

Placecast is teaming-up with Location Labs to extend the reach of its ShopAlerts service to over 180 million potential consumers in the U.S. If you remember from our previous article, ShopAlerts is/are location-triggered mobile text messages sent from brands to consumers who have opted in to the service. Here’s how it works (from the press release):

Placecast’s ShopAlerts service is a white-label mobile marketing solution. Retailers and other direct marketers deploy the technology to create their own version of the service. Consumers double opt-in to receive notifications from the brands they love through a variety of ways – including at the store, online, via text-message, mobile website, or social network (like Facebook or Twitter). Once ShopAlerts is activated, the service automatically alerts the consumer about a brand’s local sales, special events, or other relevant information based on their location.

Both Placecast and Location Labs are experts in the field of location-based marketing. While Placecast is bringing ShopAlerts to the partnership, Location Labs is delivering its Location-As-a-Service platform, offering developer partners the ability to easily incorporate the real-time phone locations…
