Facebook is exploding into the mobile space in a big way. Recent stats reveal that the Facebook application for the iPhone has over 100 million active monthly users. With over 100 million iOS devices in circulation, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that theoretically almost every iOS device has an install of Facebook on it. Quite a staggering statistic.
Despite the vocal lashing Facebook receives in the media over its privacy policies, the social network continues to expand at an amazing rate. With over 500 million active users, it is the reigning king of the socially connected web. As smartphone usage soars, more and more of those half a trillion Facebook users are turning to their handsets to check their news feed and post to their wall.
Facebook is embracing this mobile explosion by expanding and improving its mobile offerings. The company recently adding Places, a location-based check-in service, to its long list of features. When it launched, Facebook rolled out this feature to its mobile website and its iPhone application. Though Facebook’s recent focus has been on its iPhone app, Facebook is also available on all the major mobile platforms including Android, webOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile.
