The Android app for Google Earth is pretty nice and all, but what about all that blue stuff that you can’t really zoom in on? There must be something underneath that warrants our snooping, right? Well, the latest updated to Google Earth for Android now includes underwater landscapes, letting you pan, zoom, or even explore the murky depths from a first-person perspective, tilting the view to show submerged canyons as far as the eye can see. A new “Explore the Ocean” layer shares a variety of aquatic content, including natural phenomena and wildlife, which can be accessed via Flash bubbles on enabled Android phones.
This is a nice expansion on Google Earth, which had early on reached for the stars.The web-based version has been around awhile, and spawned a lot of interesting projects (especially 3D structures) that I’d love to see make the jump to mobile someday.
