Famed video game developer CAVE isn’t a stranger to the iPhone gaming market. Their previous title, Espgaluda II is undoubtedly one of the best shoot-em-ups currently available on the App Store. Not only are the graphics top notch, but the game offers an amount of difficulty not seen in most games of a similar genre. Now CAVE has delivered another shmup to the App Store called Dodonpachi Resurrection.

Dodonpachi Resurrection is a sequel to “Dodonpachi Daioujou” and has earned critical acclaim from fans for not only staying true to the original title’s scoring system, but also offering new features such as “hyper counters”, which negate enemy attacks and “counter lasers”, which shield your ship from enemy laser attacks. The game offers two full featured modes. iPhone Mode is an exclusive adaptation of the game that was made with the iPhone in mind while Arcade Mode offers a direct port of the original arcade game. Dodonpachi Resurrection also offers a practice mode for those of you who absolutely need to know all of the tricks in every level in order to score as many points as possible.

Just like with Espgaluda II, Dodonpachi Resurrection fully supports the OpenFeint social game network. That means support for online leaderboards for each mode and all characters as well as achievements, both of which will certainly give this game a ton of replayability.

To celebrate the launch of the game, CAVE is offering Dodonpachi Resurrection for $4.99(USD/CAN), £2.99(England), and €3.99(Europe) for the next 4 days, then the price will jump up to its full retail price of $8.99, £5.49 and €6.99. A LITE version of the game will also soon be released if you’re the ‘Try Before Buy’ type.  I’m usually that type of consumer, but when it comes to CAVE games, there’s absolutely no reason to try.
