Originally hinted at last DecemberIntuit and Mophie are teaming up to offer an easy-to-use credit card processing solution for small businesses. Known as the Complete Credit Card Solution, the joint offering includes a Mophie iPhone case with embedded credit card reader and Intuit’s GoPayment application. Combined, the two components work together to bring secure mobile credit card processing to the masses.

The combined hardware and software solution allows businesses to process payments with a minimal setup process that can be completed in about 15 minutes. Similar to the payment processing system used in Apple retail stores, the business owner can swipe credit cards using the Mophie reader and have customers authorize payment by signing the screen of the iPhone. Once the payment is complete, the funds are deposited into the business owner’s bank account and an invoice is sent to the customer via email within minutes.

The Complete Credit Card Solution is available at Apple retail stores for $179.95 and is compatible with the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The GoPayment App is available for free from the App Store and requires a $12.95 month fee with a 1.7 to 3.7% discount rate and $0.30 to $0.34 per transaction fee. Included within this GoPayment app is an Intuit Merchant account. One account can enable up to 50 users and the service is available without any contract requirements, setup or cancellation fees.

This is a pretty slick system – I’ve seen cab drivers in SF using it. All you need is your mobile phone and a connection, swipe the card, and payment is received. I can see this being perfect for vendors and businesses that travel w/ festivals, fairs, carnivals, etc. Being able to accept credit and not just cash payments would definitely facilitate sales.
