We’re pretty surprised that it actually took this long for the Sprint HTC EVO 4G to get a working root method on Android 2.2 Froyo OS. The official update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) for the HTC EVO 4G seemed to put the devs through the ringer while trying to regain root access after the update effectively killed root access, but perseverance has paid off. Today, the EVO got it’s root back, thanks to the XDA devs.
The root method isn’t the easiest of the bunch, but it does enable access to root applications and the sort, so it might be worthwhile for you. As time goes on, we have every reason to expect the EVO will receive an easier method to root the device, but as of right now, you’re stuck with a lot of ADB commands.
So, if you’re okay with downloading the Android SDK, HTC Sync, and three more files to get root on your Froyo’d EVO 4G, you’re golden. For the most of us, unrooted Froyo may be able to hold us over until an easier way to root the device is made available. But, you should know that setting up the software for the root procedure is the hardest part of the entire process, the steps to root Android 2.2 on the Sprint HTC EVO 4G are fairly straight forward.
We’re not sure if existing custom EVO ROMs will work after doing this, but as long as there’s a custom recovery, we don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to flash third-party ROMs to the big-screened HTC superphone. Proceed at your own risk.
It may not be the easiest, but we’re more than thankful that one of the XDA devs took the time to get this out to the users. He intends to update the method to make it easier, but most of you hardcore Android hackers and modders will work with what they have.
So if you’re ready to take the plunge and get your re-root on, hit up the link below and don’t forget to thank the dev for all the hard work he’s put into this.
