Back in June during E3, Gameloft revealed they were working on a Spider-Man game for the iPhone. Details were slim back then, but Gameloft has now released some new information, screenshots, and even a new teaser trailer.
First off, Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem won’t be based of any of the previous Spider-Man films, instead the game will be based off the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. The game will have you playing as Spider-Man (duh!) who happens to be in the middle of the worst breakout of Super Villains New York has ever seen. What do the villains want? Simple: To take over the city and dispense a poisonous virus. Kind of a step down from global domination, but it’s still a diabolical plot nonetheless. Spider-Man will need to take down six of his toughest opponents: Sandman, Rhino, Electro, Venom, Dr. Octopus, and Green Goblin in order to save the city.
What’s a Spider-Man game without some hand-to-hand and web based combat? Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem will feature ultra dynamic gameplay with over 20 fighting combos that will take full advantage of Spider-Man’s agility and powers as well as counter-attacks. Spidey will even be able to blast enemies away with his Ultimate Web Combo. The game will also feature a photography mini-game that will allow players to capture their greatest combat moves to show off to friends.
Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem will take Spider-Man across 12 levels in unique New York City locations. You’ll be able to cling to walls, jump from rooftop to rooftop, and websling all over the city.
No official release date has been given for Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, but, in usual Gameloft style, the game should be hitting the iPhone “very soon”. Let’s all hope Gameloft has learned from its last attempt at delivering a game based off a Marvel property since it didn’t end up being one of their best titles.
