In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been really excited about Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem ever since Gameloft revealed the game back in E3. I don’t know what it is about Spider-Man, but I’ve almost always enjoyed games based on him. It looks like our wait for a Spider-Man game on the iPhone is over as Gameloft has released the game onto the App Store.

As expected, players will assume the role of Spider-Man as he battles his way through multiple stages across New York City to take down some of his most powerful enemies who have escaped from their prison. It’s a good thing Spidey is able to fight using his agility, strength, and web powers, or things could get really ugly. You’ll also be able to upgrade Spider-Man’s abilities from power orbs collected during battle, destroying objects, or through your adventure.

During your adventure in Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Destruction, you’ll come across artwork that can be picked up and viewed later in the game’s menus. You’ll also be able to fight any super villains you come across during your adventure in a “Boss Rush” mode which allows you to beat super villains within a certain amount of time.  Photos taken during boss battles, both within the adventure and during Boss Rush, can be viewed from the “Extras” menu as well.  Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is Gameloft LIVE! compatible, which means full support for achievements for those of you who absolutely need achievements in your life.

Gameloft also released a new trailer that not only shows more in-game footage of the game in action, but also a taste of some of the super villains you can expect to battle in Total Mayhem.  As with all Gameloft titles, you can certainly expect Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem to hit the iPad & Android Market some time in the near future.
