Is that an iPod Touch or an iPhone?

Happen to notice anything strange about the new iPod Touch images up on the Apple site as of late? The good readers of Engadget did, and after a closer inspection myself, I have to give them a firm *tip of the cap*. Well done readers, well done.

Check out the image above. You’ll notice that even though no phone capabilities are built-in to the iPod Touch, the Phone app icon is clearly displayed in the bottom-left corner. Also, another screenshot featuring the Spotlight search clearly shows off the text messaging app… again, a feature that is clearly not applicable to the iPod Touch.

iPod Touch Text Messaging App?

Call it an honest oversight, or call it plain old laziness on the designer’s part… either way I don’t really care. Bottom line is I thought it was worth a good laugh. Hopefully you agree.

Note: Since news of these mix-ups came out, Apple has since changed up the image of the iPod Touch with the offending Phone app icon. A few offending images remain on the site, but I suspect they will be fixed in short order.
