Various members of England’s technology press core have been invited to an event hosted by HTC scheduled to take place on the 15th of September at the Hyatt Hotel in London. Rumor has it that a successor to the highly praised HTC HD2 will be announced, and that it’ll be called the HD3, run Windows Phone 7, have a 4.5 inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, dual core 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 32 GB of built in storage, 8 megapixel camera, HDMI port, 4G capabilities of some sort, and all in a 10 mm thick enclosure.
Forget mountain of salt, take that rumor on a space mission to planet salt.
There’s also speculation that the Desire, better known to Americans as the Nexus One, will get a refresh called the Desire HD or Desire Ace (pictured above). The guts will stay the same, but the screen size will be bumped up a bit to compete with the likes of the Motorola Droid X. Some also say that the body will be made from a block of aluminium, similar to the HTC Legend, one of the most attractive Android devices on the market, but sadly ships with an old processor inside. Once you go Snapdragon or Cortex A8, there’s no going back to 2007’s hotness.
One small observation: When did the middle of September become such a hot month for new devices? Nokia has Nokia World on the 14th, HTC now has this, and Samsung has something for the 16th. If all three phone manufacturers wanted to wait for the hype around the iPhone 4 to die down then congratulations, no one is talking about it anymore, and the stage is all yours, but do you really have to fight over it?
What are you looking forward to? I’m crossing my fingers that Samsung releases a smaller Galaxy S. After seeing several in the wild, and playing with one at a retail store, I’m both amazed and appalled by that gorgeous yet ginormous screen.
