iOS 4.1 has been in the wild for almost 24 hours and folks are reporting their good, bad or indifferent experiences with the latest version of Apple’s OS. High on the “good” list is the proximity sensor which is reportedly now fixed and working as expected for many iPhone 4 owners.
The proximity sensor is one of several small problems people reported after the launch of the iPhone 4. For many iPhone 4 owners, the proximity sensor would malfunction and cause the handset to active the touchscreen while it was being held to your face. Accidental dialing, activating mute, and accidentally hanging up on a calls were an unfortunate result of this glitch. The problem was so bad that some people gave up on their iPhone 4 as the glitch rendered their handset useless. Apple acknowledged the problem and promised a fix in the next iOS update.
Thankfully, its appears Apple has followed through with this promise. Apple’s support forums are buzzing with people reporting that the proximity sensor is operating properly after installing the latest iOS 4.1 update. Those that still have the problem after the update may have a hardware problem and should look to exchange their handset. Anyone else now have a functional proximity sensor after installing iOS 4.1?
