After waiting for what feels like an eternity, Palm Pre Plus owners on AT&T and Verizon are finally receiving the webOS 1.4.5 update. While most of the fixes in this update are minor, it does enable PDK application support which is necessary for gaming on the webOS platform. All Verizon Wireless and AT&T customers rocking a Palm Pre Plus can now now join their Sprint and Pixi Plus brethren and enjoy a rousing game of Angry Birds on their webOS handset.
The release notes for AT&T and Verizon are currently not available as Palm’s support website is partially down. Early reports from the forums suggest the update does not fix the poor GPS performance of the Verizon Pre Plus. If you want near instantaneous GPS information, you will have to apply the GPS Fix app available in Preware or trick your handset into using aGPS by manually launching VZ Navigator in the background. If you choose the latter method, remember to let VZ Navigator launch to the splash screen and do not agree to the buy the subscription service.
If you use homebrew apps on the Pre Plus, also remember to remove all patches and themes before updating. You will also need to update your Preware feeds before installing any patches once you are up and running on webOS 1.4.5. When you receive the update, let us know your first impressions in the comments.
