It’s Sunday, and while a usual weekend for me begins by shutting off my laptop after finishing work up on Friday, then proceeding to party my brains out over the ensuing 48 hours with copious amounts of binge drinking and reckless unprotected sex, and then finally waking up on Monday morning to boot up my work machine while brewing a 1 liter pot of coffee, the weather today is a bit crap [read: rain], so I bring you this bit of news. It’s a music video shot of the song “Au Revoir” as performed by Seven Saturdays from their soon to be released [October 18th] album “The Snowflakes That Hit Us Became Our Stars”; directed by Katie West. I say “their album”, but I really mean “his album” since Seven Saturdays is the brainchild of a sole man, Jonathan D. Haskell, who hails from Edinburgh. He’s now based out of L.A. and at this point I’ll stop paraphrasing his bio since you can read it for yourself on his MySpace page.
Now the above mentioned video wasn’t shot on an iPhone 4, which is sad since seeing Japan in HD would have been awesome, but the whole point of me sharing this with you is to feed you some culture and perhaps even inspire you. One guy, one phone, one studio, and he’s doing pretty well for himself. Stop playing Guitar Hero and pick up a real instrument. Hell even I used to play something as a child, the French horn … don’t ask.
And while we’re on the topic of music videos and music in general, you should check out “Esther’s” from Amon Tobin; directed by Charles De Meyer. It’s got a break beats meets hard dance type of style that’s pretty damn unique compared to what I’ve heard, and my stereo is on from the moment I wake up to the hour before I sleep, so I’ve consumed a lot of music spanning multiple genres.
Enjoy your Sunday, and to those of you who are nursing a hangover: let us commence the countdown to next Friday.
