The HTC Desire HD is one nice piece of smartphone hardware, capable of taking even the current spec-king, the EVO 4G, down a couple of notches. So, what’s even better about the Desire HD? It comes with HTC’s new version of the Sense UI, which provides some awesome additions in the way you use your phone. HTC recently posted up a video showcasing some of the Desire HD’s great features that will make any head turn.
One thing you won’t find on the Desire HD? An HDMI port. HTC chose to leave out the port in favor of supporting DLNA so you can stream music and video content from your phone to your TV without wires. Sure, HDMI would be nice, but it’s even better being able to stream HD videos with audio to your TV over WiFi. This can be considered a dream come true if you’re like me and have about 10 wires coming out of your TV already. But what if your TV doesn’t support DLNA? You can always use a PS3 or some other DLNA supported device you have near your TV, but HTC wants to make that even easier for you. And make more money off of you. Enter the Media Link, HTC’s DLNA solution for those that don’t have a DLNA supported TV.
The video also drops the “M” word a couple of times as well. Magical. Your products, too? I’m not gonna dog HTC about their choice of words, but it sure is interesting. Then again, if a big iPod Touch (though awesome) is magical, I think a much higher spec’d smartphone can own that label as well. The Desire HD is also blazing fast with its new Snapdragon processor under the hood, which makes the Nexus One on Froyo eat its dust.
Other features of the HD make it almost self-aware. “It recognizes when it’s tucked away, and rings loud enough to get your attention.” A cool feature that activates the proximity sensor and accelerometers when the phone begins to ring. Once you pick up a ringing DHD, the ringer volume will automatically decrease. The HD also comes with some features found on other HTC smartphones, like turning the phone over to completely silence a call. Things like this make you appreciate the attention to detail HTC throws into their smartphones.
One of the coolest features found on the Desire HD is that you can pre-download Maps to your phone to get easy access to them when you’re on the go. This is part of the HTC Locations app. By downloading maps before you’re out and about, there’s no need to worry about whether or not you have a good data connection to pull up map data – there’s also no need to wait as your phone slowly download new map grids as you zoom in/out and pan around a map. This is an extra service you’ll have to pay for separately, but it’s a good one nonetheless.
We could go on and on about the great things HTC has done with the Desire HD, but we suggest you just check out the video to get the full scoop on the hot handset.
