Where, Inc. has acquired LocalGinger, the local group-buying company that operates in secondary markets.
Here’s what you need to know about LocalGinger (from the press release):
LocalGinger has built a strong following among merchants in second tier cities and recently launched a social commerce platform that allows merchants to manage their own daily deals. Combined with WHERE’s consumer reach of 50 million through the WHERE Ads platform, local businesses can now use simple tools to create offers and drive real-time commerce at a hyper local level.
And why should you care? Well, if you use Where’s mobile app, you will be getting more deals pushed to your phone, group-buying offers included. Merchants on their end will be able to join the just-in-time group buying trend using Where’s platform.
Commenting on the news, Where’s CEO Walt Doyle said: “With the LocalGinger platform, WHERE Ads bridges a gap between services like Groupon and AdSense. Combining these services supports our mission of delivering relevant and valuable content to the WHERE audience as well as the audience of our publisher partners. On WHERE Ads, merchants interested in just-in-time group buying deals will have a platform to use and audience to reach through WHERE.”
