It looks like Samsung kept up to its word and now the much-wanted GPS fix is online for Vibrant users. It’s available through Samsung’s Kies program, which allows you to sync files from your computer to your phone.
All you need to do is download the program, and once it’s installed, it should give you a notification that an update is available. It probably wouldn’t hurt to have the correct drivers installed, so make sure you have downloaded those first. Once the Kies program notifies you about the update, download it, and install. We have yet to test this out just yet, but the GPS fix should be tucked away somewhere in the update.
While trying to update the Vibrant, I ran into a few issues. Kies told me that it could not understand my connection mode, and that I needed to reconnect the phone. After several attempts, I just gave up on the entire deal. Hopefully, others have more success than I did.
Even though the update may be available online, we’re hoping that T-Mobile decides to send it out over the air. Not everyone wants another piece of software on the computer just to get an update, even if Samsung provides some useful features within said program. Many Android users are spoiled with the OTA updates and going back to the wired update method just seems a little lame. That said, OTA updates can be unreliable at times, as some CLIQ users have experienced.
Hopefully this will solves the GPS woes that the manual fix we posted a while back didn’t fix. I won’t try to update the vibrant again, I’ve got bigger and better things headed my way tomorrow.
So if you’ve updated your Vibrant successfully, how’s it working out for you?
