In a somewhat surprising twist, Apple approved a BitTorrent app called IS Drive. The application is actually envisioned as a tool for managing ImageShack‘s torrent download service, but can also be used to sing along other torrent sites such as IsoHunt and Mininova. Needless to say, it’s yet another proof of the changing climate at Cupertino.
As you may know, initially no third-party web browsers were allowed in the AppStore and today you have a plenty of choice including Opera Mini. Moreover, we’ve seen few Google Voice apps being released in the last couple of weeks.
You can say the reason is in the IS Drive app’s description, which doesn’t even mentions the word “torrent.” Then again about a year and a half ago we’ve seen a BitTorrent control app DriveTrain being rejected by Jobs & Co, despite being only a remote access application, not a BitTorrent client per se.
Whatever the reasoning behind Apple’s decision to approve IS Drive, we support further opening of the AppStore and applaud them for taking this road…
