Come on, don’t act like you’re surprised that Popular Mechanics has voted the HTC EVO 4G as one of the top products of 2010. What makes the award or recognition special is that it’s not just being considered against other phones, but different kinds of products like cars and cameras, too. Popular Mechanics gives the EVO a Breakthrough Product Award for this year.
The Android smartphone now sports the latest and greatest version of the Google platform, Android 2.2 or Froyo, and it’s all dressed up in that sexy Sense UI. Additionally, it has a large-but-not-cumbersome 4.3-inch touchscreen display which is great for watching videos and reading stuff on the web or in eBook apps. Along with Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth capabilities, it’s also the first 4G phone released in America. (Whether you think WiMax is a 4G technology really is another debate.)
In fact, here’s what our Editor-in-Chief Will Park said about the device during his review:
So, does Evo live up to its striking good looks, killer feature-set, and the promise of a multimedia dream come true? Well, in case you haven’t been paying attention. Damn skippy. Evo’s huge screen just oozes sex appeal to any gadget geek – at the very least, it will draw the attention of just about anyone you happen to be near when you start playing with Evo. It’s packed with every high-end smartphone feature (super-fast data capabilities, GPS, sensors, awesome camera) you could want right now, and Evo will even let you pimp out its fast internet connection to other devices over WiFi.
It’s a nice piece of hardware that has been loved by its users and gobbled up so quickly by fans that Sprint has had a hard time keeping the units in stock.
If you’re just now hearing of the HTC EVO 4G or you’re considering one now that stock has been replenished and it’s about that time to grab a new contract, check out our full review here.
