Spotify has just released an app for Windows Mobile and the company promised its music-streaming service will also be hitting the upcoming Windows Phone 7.
If you don’t know, the subscription service offers users access to millions of audio tracks on demand. The Windows Phone app gives you the ability to stream over 2G or 3G, as well as sync tracks to your device so you can play those tunes without a data connection.
As you can see from the video below, you’ll also be able to manage your play lists on the fly and wirelessly sync your local files. It all looks really cool.
I say it’s supposed to be cool because I don’t have access to Spotify here in the United States. I could do some IP routing but I really don’t find a need to.
Spotify has been promising to hit the U.S. market for a while now but it seems to have hit major snags with the record labels. With similar services like Rhapsody and Rdio coming out with really good mobile apps, it may be too late for many in the United States to care about Spotify.
Still, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Spotify from my friends across the pond, so the app should be well received. It’s also another big-name app which has committed to Windows Phone 7, which is a positive sign for Microsoft’s upcoming smartphone platform.
It’s also good that Microsoft will allow competing services on its Windows Marketplace for Mobile. We already know that the Zune software will come preloaded on the Windows Phone 7 handsets, along with access to the Zune Pass music subscription service.
Check out the video below for a demo of the Spotify app and let us know what you think of the service as well as your expectations for the Microsoft app.
