Earlier this week, we had heard some undocumented rumours about Vodafone UK picking up the refreshed BlackBerry Bold 9780, but today that claim has been backed up by a shot of the device in Vodafone Spain’s business catalog. Most of the stuff in the specs list has already been confirmed – 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth, but there are some finer details here we haven’t seen before, like battery life (500 hours standby, 6 hours talk), dimensions (120 g, 109 x 60 x 13.6 mm), and internal storage (250 MB). No mention of the upgraded 512 MB of RAM, though.
As you would expect, those new specs are all pretty much identical to the BlackBerry 9700, which has the same HVGA display, trackpad, QWERTY keyboard, and frame as the 9780. In fact, the two devices are so similar that Vodafone couldn’t even be bothered to swap out the device’s screenshot for one with OS 6.
We’ve seen plenty of this device in both Canada and the U.S., and the recent flood of sightings grants credence to rumours of an October 21 launch. Although I’m sure nobody’s really holding their breath for this one, especially if they have a 9700 that will eventually be able to run OS 6, the 9780 will still keep the form factor reasonably fresh and on carrier shelves for a little while longer.
