The rugged, push-to-talk Motorola i1 that has been hanging out on Sprint since the summer is now coming to Canada by way of Telus and their Mike iDEN network. For those who live and die by immediate two-way PTT communication and need a tough phone for an unforgiving workplace, the Motorola i1 will feel exceptionally modern compared to the few alternatives available. It has a 3.1″ HVGA touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, GPS, Android 2.1 (yay, no more 1.5!), and has a bunch of helpful software available in the Market, like a mobile timesheet, construction calculators for drywall, asphalt, and roofing, electrical wiring calculator, and concrete mixing calculator.
Telus will be offering the Motorola i1 for $149 on a three-year contract. It’s not showing up in the Telus online store just yet, but give your local store a call and they might be able to hook you up. If you’re thinking of nabbing one, be sure to take a look at our review of the Motorola i1.
UPDATE: After some healthy skepticism in the comments, I followed up with Telus PR and they apologized profusely for leading me on about Android 2.1 – sorry, still 1.5.
