Tango, a free mobile video calling app/service for iPhone and Android which we recently covered, announced that one million people have downloaded Tango from the Apple’s AppStore and Google’s Android Market in the first 10 days of its release on September 30th!
The application debuted as the number one Social Networking app in the AppStore in the first week of its release in nine countries including the U.S., France, Hong Kong, South Korea, Spain and Taiwan. As for the Android Market, it has ranked in the top 10 Communications apps since launch.
In terms of geography, 40% of downloads are U.S.-based, but Tango is also used in other countries, 125 of them to be more precise. Tango ranks in the top five in the Social Networking category in 26 countries including the U.S., Chile, Egypt, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Luxembourg, South Korea, Spain and Taiwan.
Tango’s pitch is simple and it’s not just about video calling as users can also share what they see in real time – from grandparents watching their grandchildren’s soccer games, to friends video calling each other from the Great Wall of China, to the Deaf community embracing Tango. Love it!
