On top of UMA rollouts for the Curve 9300 and the Bold 9700, Rogers will be offering the service to the BlackBerry Pearl 3g 9100 as well. According to this leaked document, text messages were starting to be sent out yesterday notifying users that an OS update was available. After download, subscribers just need to tack on a Wi-Fi calling plan, and they can make unlimited Canada-wide calls whenever they’re in a wireless zone. This is a great option for those looking for a landline replacement, or just get crummy coverage at home.
If you don’t get the notification, got to Wireless Upgrade under advanced options on your BlackBerry 9100 to see if the OS update is available. The feature may very well be a selling point to some folks, but be sure to check out our review of the Pearl 3G before you sign up for that gruesome three-year contract.
