If you’re on the fence about getting a Windows Phone 7 device on Orange, you may be happy to hear that the carrier said the Samsung Omnia 7 will offer High-Definition Voice.
HD Voice is a technology offered by Orange which aims to provide a higher-quality of voice communication. It’s not used by many other networks around the globe and the company is hoping that it will be a feature which helps it stand out.
To be honest, even if I were on Orange, I don’t know how much HD Voice would factor in to my purchasing decision because I barely talk on the phone. In fact, I pretty much exclusively talk on my cell phone for business calls and I’ve yet to crack my 450-minute limit. I much prefer sending out e-mails and texts.
With that said, HD Voice is a nice cherry on top of this Windows Phone 7 device. The Omnia 7 will have a 4-inch AMOLED display, 1 GHz Qualcomm processor (interesting that it doesn’t use Samsung’s 1 GHz Hummingbird processor), a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD capabilities, and 8 or 16 GB of on-board storage.
The real star of the show is the operating system itself, as Windows Phone 7 looks to be a fresh take on how we interact with our devices. Even though there will be plenty of apps, it’s kind of a throwback because the OS and your online information take center stage instead of the user being thrown in to various apps.
If you were hoping that the HTC Mozart would support HD Voice, you’re apparently out of luck.
