AT&T’s getting in the holiday spirit by announcing white and red versions of the BlackBerry Torch 9800, arriving November 7. It’s unlikely that a fresh paint job will dramatically improve dwindling sales, but gosh darn, are they good-lookin’. AT&T is still selling the Torch for $199 on contract, while it’s only $79 on Amazon or LetsTalk.
If you’ve yet to lay hands on the BlackBerry, it’s RIM’s top-of-the-line smartphone right now, followed closely by the recently-announced Style 9670 and Bold 9780. The Torch has a 3.2″ HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Wi-Fi b/g/n, HSPA 3G, GPS, 624 MHz processor, and 512 MB of RAM. The Torch was also the first BlackBerry that ran OS 6, which introduced universal search, a WebKit browser, and a host of user interface improvements.
As far as straight style goes, I think the gradient red on the Pearl 9100 has a bit more panache, but maybe that’s just me. If you’re thinking of nabbing the 9800 in one of the two new colours, be sure to check out our review of the BlackBerry Torch first.
