You know the drill, right? You want to book a hotel but you’re not sure whether it “comes with” bed bugs or not. If you’re travelling to a conference, the most important thing is to get a few hours of good sleep and then proceed to the next day of the event (presuming the event lasts more than a single day).
One solution to avoid these pests is to read about hotels in advance and discover whether it has been invaded by the bugs or not. That’s a hassle, hence a company called Apps Genius figured there’s gotta be a better way to do it.
So they came up with an iPhone app simply called Bed Bug Alert that shows all the locations “featuring” bed bugs on a map. In other words, an app like this will help you get a decent hotel without spending a fortune — after all I doubt any Hyatt or Hilton has these problems, but they can be too pricey.
“Everyone’s biggest fear is now bedbugs. It seems to be everywhere you turn — Bloomingdales, the Waldorf — you’re hearing about it,” said Adam Kotkin, CEO of Apps Genius.
The application lets people go online and map out reports of the latest bug infestations in 10 major American cities. Moreover, there’s the option to submit your own sightings, which is super handy and helps other folks too. Love it! 😉
