Gmail users who prefer the web client on the iPhone or iPod touch have some new changes to look forward to. Google updated the UI to be a little more intuitive, and it also made some updates to performance as well. Some of the changes include a fixed toolbar where a floating bar was before, which makes for easier flagging or deletion on the iPhone’s screen.
Speed has been improved overall as you scroll up and down, and the overall experience is much better, too. However, not everyone who owns and iPhone or iPod touch will see these changes, as Electronista reports:
Gmail’s new interface needs the newer web code from iOS 4 and is currently only available in English, though other languages are promised for later.
The new Gmail interface on iOS actually makes using the Google mail client a pleasure on the iPhone. While the built-in mail app for iOS devices is sufficient for the basics, flagging, starring and other features are sorely missing. Having an optimized version for the mobile web is really nice.
