If you’re an Android gamer, then you know the marketplace has been booming recently now that some big name publishers are supporting the platform. I mean, just recently we were given Angry Birds and boy, did it sell very, VERY well. We’ve also seen some serious support from OpenFeint, Gameloft, and EA. It looks like PopCap is finally ready to support Android as they’ve announced they’re bringing two of its big name mobile titles to Android: Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle.
The confirmation comes straight from PopCap Games’ development director, Sameer Baroova during a chat with PocketGamer in regards to public outcry from Android users who were less than pleased to hear Windows Phone 7 would be receiving a PopCap Game before the promised Android version. Sameer responded to that outcry with this simple message:
I am delighted to confirm that we are working on bringing both Peggle and Plants vs Zombies to Android in early 2011
Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle should require no introduction to you by now if you’re a casual or mobile gamer, but if you have, in fact, lived under a rock for the past couple of months, then allow me to educate you. Plants vs. Zombies has you fighting wave after wave of invading zombies with a plethora of various foliage. As for Peggle, it’s a simple puzzle game that requires you to shoot Pegs across a number of levels with different layouts.
If you recall, PopCap announced back in July 2009 that they were already working on some games for the Android platform, although they never specified which games.. Having Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle on the Android Marketplace will certainly be a big step in the right direction for PopCap Games, but they also need to make its other huge mobile title, Bejeweled 2, available on Android sooner rather than later. Seeing as how Bejeweled 3 is going to be released next month on PC & Mac, this would be the perfect opportunity to supply a Bejeweled game to the Android market.
