GetJar confirmed that it is bringing its catalog of 75,000+ free applications to the AT&T AppCenter. AT&T becomes the third major wireless carrier North America to offer GetJar to its customers. Earlier this year, GetJar partnered with Sprint in the US and with Rogers in Canada. In addition to Rogers, AT&T, and Sprint, GetJar has partnered with two dozen carriers, developers, and OEMs worldwide.

GetJar, for those not familiar with the service, is a cross-platform App Store that boasts of over 75,000+ applications and over 1 billion downloads. It is an independent, alternative source for mobile applications and its size and influence rivals that of Android. Though not as large as Apple’s App Store, GetJar is growing exponentially.

Unlike its larger rivals, GetJar is cross-platform and supports a wide variety handsets including BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android, and Symbian. GetJar is attractive to wireless operators as it allows carriers to offer a robust, multi-handset app store without all the work of managing it.

AT&T customers should fire up their handsets as the GetJar application is now available in the applications category of the AT&T AppCenter. Full Press release is on the next page.
