The Swype gesture-based keyboard for Android has just entered a 5th. beta which, on top of the usual performance improvements, includes the ability to double-tap a word to bring up the correction menu, and a voice-to-text button if you have Google Voice Search installed. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s really something you have to see in action to understand.
Swype has scored a couple of partnerships to have its keyboard preloaded on a few devices, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Motorola Droid X. I’ve only spent a little bit of time with Swype, but in my experience, it’s fantastic, and the addition of voice-to-text will be great for those hands-free situations. For that particular feature, Vlingo could provide an interesting partnership, no? This keyboard has also brought a lot of attention to the possibility of custom offerings on Android, inspiring such far-out creations as 8pen.
