You might be thinking to yourself, “Why would I want Swype on my Nokia N8?” The real question is – why wouldn’t you? The text input software is hugely popular with Android users given its simplicity and ease-of-use. After all, the world record for the fastest text messages cranked out were done using Swype software. And if you’ve been grinding your teeth trying to use the N8’s keyboard like I did during the time I had an N8, this is practically a gift from above.
The official Swype app is now available in the Ovi Store, but be careful if you’ve been using the version designed for the Nokia C7 on your N8. You’ll have to delete that completely in order to use the official version for your handset without running into any problems.
The QWERTY keyboard in portrait view is unavailable, so that isn’t going to help you with your one-handed typing speed, but like I said, anything besides the stock keyboard is going to be leagues better than what you’ve grown accustomed to. Now if only they’ll get it to work when you’re holding your phone upright – perhaps the way you hold your phone 90% of the time.
