Samsung is on a roll with its Galaxy S series of devices and its new Galaxy Tab Android tablet. The manufacturer is definitely looking to keep its position in the market and will be churning out an extraordinary number of smartphones next year. Good news for Microsoft, as it looks like Samsung is prepared to make more Windows Phone 7 handsets next year versus Android or Bada handsets. This is a little odd given what Samsung was talking about just two months ago.
It goes without saying that Symbian is already out of the question, but just several weeks ago Samsung gave us the impression that it wanted to focus on and prioritize Android. When asked about Windows Phone 7, YH Lee, head of marketing at Samsung Mobile, told Reuters, “There is still some professional, specialized demand there.”
It seems Samsung quickly changed its tune when asked again very recently regarding its plans to build Windows Phone 7 handsets.
Next year, Samsung will introduce 15 to 20 new smart-phone models using Android, Windows, and Brada [sic] operating systems. For every 50 smart phones using Windows, it will make 24 using Android and five using Brada [sic].
It’s an interesting reversal from Samsung, but perhaps that was its intention from the start and didn’t want to make too much of a big deal before it released its Galaxy Tab.
One thing is for certain, with iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7, webOS 2.0 and MeeGo kicking around in the market next year, there will be a massive explosion of smartphones for us to lust after.
