According to new data from Wireless Intelligence, the number of LTE connections in Asia Pacific will exceed 120 million by 2015. As expected, China will lead the ride, accounting for nearly half (57.9 million) of the total number. Other markets that will follow China on its “rise to LTE” include Japan, with 26.5 million, Indonesia with 13.1 million and South Korea with 9.8 million connections. Additionally, significant growth is also anticipated in other leading countries of the region like Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan.
It is said LTE-enabled mobile broadband services will facilitate a wide variety of socio-economic benefits across Asia Pacific to empower education, improve health services, enhance productivity, increase trade and drive innovation — all factors that should help the region sustain economic development.
Commenting on the figures, Joss Gillet, senior analyst at Wireless Intelligence, said: “The introduction of high-speed LTE will increase demand for mobile Internet and Mobile Broadband in Asia Pacific. Among many possible adoption scenarios, the release of digital dividend spectrum will play an important role in connecting consumers to these new networks.”
