Have you ever wanted to measure your heart rate using your iPhone? I know I haven’t. However, if you’re of the opinion that you may get some mileage out of a heart rate monitor on your iPhone, keep reading.
Heart Rate from CMG Research is a new entry into the App Store that… well, it measures how fast your heart is beating. Using the iPhone 4 camera (sorry, 3G and 3GS users, you’re out of luck on this one), the app measures your BPM’s with some measure of accuracy.
If you workout with your iPhone 4, I could see this being a handy little tool to have if you’re in the middle of some outdoor cardio to see if you’re in your target zone. That said, I know there are more convenient monitoring tools out there, but if you don’t have one, and you carry your iOS-powered device with you wherever you go… this could be a win.
The developers at CMG Research note that the app is intended for fun only, and should not be used for any medical purposes. Of course. That said, you may want to give it a spin to see how accurate the darn thing is. From the App Store reviews I’ve read so far, it looks like it is surprisingly accurate. Of course, those reviews could be bogus, so you might as well give it a try for yourself to get the low-down.
