Acer is stepping up its Android presence next year with tablets and a new 4.8-inch beast of a smartphone. For now, the Android handset coming from Acer doesn’t have a proper name yet, but on paper it looks pretty impressive. The near-five-inch display will have a 1024 x 480 resolution, 1GHz processor, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, HSPA+ 14.4 capable and loads more.

Acer says that it will be a smartphone and a tablet all into one. How original! It seems the ideal viewing position for the new handset will be in landscape mode as it’s a 21:9 ratio display, which might seem a little narrow and wide for some folks, but Acer says it’s ideal for viewing all kinds of stuff. Perhaps we’ll get a little more info as launch day draws near, but for now you can see the press release on the next page.
