Tokyo, Japan-based AITIA Corporation has launched what they say is the world’s first augmented reality motion video and still image shooting application called “Mosimo Camera” for Android smartphones.
The name “Mosimo” comes from “what if…” in Japanese and the idea is to allow users to take incredible photos — i.e. “what if your girlfriend sparkled with light?”
The application relies on the technology originally developed for interactive digital signage called “AITIA Symphonic Motion Mobile,” enabling merging of virtual effects into videos and photos in real time.
Here’s how it works with videos (from the press release):
Shooting AR motion video is very simple and only requires two steps. First, users choose a favorite fantasy effect from 12 different kinds of effects, and just push the “film” button. The app automatically tracks the movement(s) and face(s) of the subject(s) and fuses the chosen effect in real time. Users don’t need to edit at all, and can easily upload the video to video sharing sites such as YouTube.
As for the still images, there are 16 effects to choose from and again Mosimo Camera will detect the face(s) and feature(s) of the subject(s) and then fuse the chosen effect with the picture in real time.
Mosimo Camera is available as free download, requiring only that your device runs Android 2.1 or higher. If that’s on place, simply search for “mosimo” in the Android Market and take it from there.
