A company called Rollcomm is joining the mobile payment market. Their twist is in offering a solution that doesn’t require any special equipment for payment processing – all that’s required are two Bluetooth-enabled phones (or that’s smartphones?).
Rollcomm is pitching the new solution to an array of parties, including retailers, wholesale traders, banks and operators.
Customers don’t pay anything per transaction and the payment processing application is free to download. Merchants on their end pay a transaction fee with every purchase and $40 (31 EUR) per payment connection installed.
At the moment, the Rollpay merchant software is available on Nokia phones (I assume those running Symbian S60), but soon it will be available on other platforms, including iOS, Android and BlackBerry OS.
I’m not sure what to think of it. Rollpay certainly sounds promising, but the question is which companies will embrace it and bring mobile payments to its customers…
