We heard about the Sharp Galapagos tablets a while back, but now they have been officially unveiled in all their Android OS-powered glory. Coming in 5.5 and 10.8 inch versions, Sharp is surely skipping the middle ground with no 7 incher in sight.
The 5.5 inch version comes with a 1024×600 resolution, which is rather impressive for such a screen size, and will cost you 39,000 Yen ($473). Those opting for the 10.8 inch version, which comes with a 1366×800 resolution display will have to cough up a bit more money, 54,800 Yen, or $642, to be exact. Clearly, neither of these tablets are on the budget side of things, but they aren’t priced terribly high, either. That said, the much better spec’d Notion Ink Adam tablet will cost you around just $500 for the most expensive version, which includes WiFi and 3G support.
Nonetheless, the Galapagos tablets looks rather impressive, even if we don’t know all of the specs just yet. They likely won’t be super high-end devices, but the resolution on these tablets are enough to give them another glance. Sure, there are many other specifications to consider when buying a tablet, but judging the iPad’s success, a bigger, higher resolution display may go a long way in winning some tablet users’ hearts.
2011 will undoubtedly be the year of tablets, most of which will be running Android. The Galapagos tablets are certainly a step in the right direction, and they just may make the cut and become one of the more desirable Android tablets on market.
Anyone interested in these tablets?
