And you thought that last video of Sony Ericsson’s PlayStation phone was hot? Well, check out this latest one that was spotted on YouTube by Engadget. Unlike the previous video which was shot with the blur filter at max, this latest video is shot with striking clarity.
The two-minute video, embedded below, gives us a close look at the slide-out gaming controller, the front and back of the PlayStation Phone, and surprise, surprise Android 2.3 Gingerbread. A second video provides a sneak peek at the PlayStation application which is the central feature of this gaming-oriented handset.
Details are sparse on how the PlayStation part of the phone will work. According to second video, the handset will include a dedicated PlayStation application that gives you access to your game library. The application has a recently played list so you can easily launch your favorite game. Unfortunately, what makes up a PlayStation game is currently not known. Will Sony Ericsson build in support for current Android games or will games need a complete re-write to support the hardware?
Despite these uncertainties, excitement is high for the PlayStation phone as it is a bold step for Sony Ericsson. The struggling manufacturer aspires to be the largest Android manufacturer but has not yet produced an innovative Android handset. Sony Ericsson is in need of a winner and it may just have one with the PlayStation phone.
Rumors suggest the handset will include a 1 GHz processor, display between 3.7 and 4.1 inches, 512MB of RAM, and 8 GB microSD card. The handset is thought to launch with Android 3.0, but all leaked images show Android 2.x. The PlayStation phone may hit the shelves as early as February and a CES or MWC unveiling is not out of the question. Anyone excited to see this long rumored handset finally come to fruition?
