The North Point Community Church had a concert recently in Atlanta that featured a seven-man band made up of folks holding mostly iPads, but also a few iPhones. They run through Carol of the Bells using apps like SoundGrid, MelodyBell and iGog; Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree with Percussions, PocketOrgan, and Saxophone Musicofx; and Feliz Navidad with the help of I Am T-Pain, Bebot, and Guitarist. All-in-all, it’s a really great video, and can easily get any gadget geek in the holiday spirit.

Yeah, okay, we get it, the iPhone can be used to create some decent music, but I can’t help but think any time a musician tries to do anything serious with one of Apple’s mobile products, they tend to come off as junky and gimmicky by anyone with professional equipment. When it’s just being done for something lighthearted like Christmas tunes though, it’s hard to deride them, especially when it’s clear they’ve put a fair bit of practice in and carefully chosen their apps.

Good work, North Point iBand – keep it up!
