As part of its Ping social networking service, Apple has reportedly started using iTun.es domain for link shortening. According to MacRumors, the Cupertino-based company registered the domain in December 2006, and now it begun using it for compact Twitter updates.
“iTun.es” is an internal Apple thing with links being created automatically. Users can’t access the service and make their own custom links — at least, I couldn’t access the website.
So next time you got a recommendation from a friend with the “itun.es/SOMETHING” URL don’t get surprised – Apple has figured out how to make sharing content from iTunes more convenient…
