South Korean developer Nabix has written an iPhone application for the lonely men that make up the nation that brings us devices such as the Samsung Google Nexus S and LG C900. For $2 you’ll get up to 4 video calls a day from a girl who serenades you using the oldest courtship phrases in the book. “Honey, I miss you!” may get real old, real fast, but not when it’s being recited by a gorgeous teenager in skimpy clothing. Now I don’t know what this type of application says about the state of our society, nor do I want to associate with the type of people who buy this to get actual emotional comfort. South Korea prides itself on how digitally connected they are, and many nations are trying to emulate their government policy so they too can make sure that each of their citizens has a high speed gigabit fiber connection to their home, but what about the side effects?
Are people so lonely and so shy to communicate with each other face to face that they have to resort to a digital representation of affection? Men are better off spending that $2 on an iPhone app that reminds them to go the gym, that or a used self help book so they can regain their confidence. Check out the video above used to promote the app and try not to laugh. It’s nearly impossible, so if you pull it off then I applaud you.
Do you know anyone who would actually buy this application? Give them a hug. Seriously. Take them out for a beer or two, ask them if they want to go for a few rounds of one on one at a basketball court, just be their friend. Once they’ve got enough human contact and are comfortable with you then maybe, just maybe, they’ll go out and try to find a mate.
