The LG Optimus 2X is the first handset to feature a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, the next generation of mobile processing power. In true showdown style, the dual-core Optimus 2X goes head to head against the iPhone 4 in a battle of browser speed. The short but sweet YouTube video reveals the blazing speed of the Optimus 2X, which in two page rendering trials is able to beat out the iPhone 4. In the first test, the Optimus 2X renders the page slightly faster than the iPhone. In subsequent menu selections and a second page rendering test, the LG mobile phone clearly beats Apple’s flagship handset.
Of course, two trials are not an exhaustive test and additional timed page loads would be necessary to formulate an irrefutable conclusion. In all fairness, I would amiss to not point out that the Optimus 2 is a brand new handset with a next generation processor, while the iPhone 4 is now 6 months old. Nonetheless, this simple trial does suggest the Tegra 2 processor is fast, possibly the fastest processing solution currently available for mobile devices. It will be interesting to see if the iPhone 5 will include a processor fast enough to unseat NVIDIA from its position as reigning champ.
