We’re live at the Samsung press conference here at CES 2011 where we’re looking forward to seeing new smartphones and tablets and maybe a surprise or two. This morning we caught a glimpse of the Infuse 4G for AT&T, so perhaps we’ll get a deeper look into the upcoming 4G handset along with a few others.

Be sure to stay tuned as we keep you updated live through the event!

Good afternoon, folks. We’re here live at the Samsung press conference at CES 2011. Everyone is just getting seated as we get ready to start!
1:59

Some pretty magical Disney-esque music going on here…
2:00

And we’re getting started!

President Tim Baxter is now up on stage to talk “The Smarter Life”
2:08
2:08
“This year, we’re going to celebrate the smarter life.”
2:08
2:09
“Smart design, smart experiences and smart connections. We’re going to discuss what it means and technologies that define it.”
2:09
2:09
“In 2010, we saw consumer’s desire to access content like never before.”
2:09
2:09
This includes tablets, mobile devices and TVs.
2:09
2:09
“In 2011, we will continue to push these strategies to the limits of their potential.”
2:09
2:10
Three Samsung execs will be joining Mr. Baxter on stage.
2:10
2:10
First up is John Revie, SVP Consumer Business Division for Samsung Electronics America
2:10
2:10
Looking at the TVs of last year, we saw 3D TV take its first major steps.

2:12
2:12
Baxter: Smart design has been a key factor of differentiation.
2:12
2:13
Revie: TVs have gotten smarter over the years, but what hasn’t changed much is the bezel. This year we’re narrowing the bezel to change the view of the television.
2:13
2:13
Now we’re taking a look at three TVs that look pretty
2:13
2:13
Ahh, and the bezels were pulled right off! The huge, plastic, ugly black bezels. Very nice trick there, Samsung.
2:13
2:14
Wow, the bezel looks non-existent from where we’re seated. It looks like we’re looking at all screen. It’s 2/10 of an inch wide all around.
2:14
2:14
One is an acrylic bezel, and another is metal. Very solid.
2:14
2:15
“We truly believe our designers have raised the bar in 2011”
2:15
2:15
“We’ve been able to reduce the bezel size and increase the picture size one inch.”

2:17
2:17
“This year’s family of Smart TVs helps users manage their content”
2:17
2:18
“Consumers are also accessing content from other devices within the home. We enable consumers to search across Samsung apps, DLNA devices and across the web.”
2:18
2:18
“We fully support the smart grid initiative to manage power consumption and eventually control appliances with mobile devices.”

2:18
2:18
What? A smart refrigerator with an 8-inch screen? Nuts.
2:18
2:19
It has apps like a web calendar, photo albums and so forth. Yup, just what you need at the refrigerator…
2:19
2:19
Tweet what you’re snacking on, maybe?

Samsung is now getting into the TV contest

2:20
Take home prizes today are worth half a million for those lucky developers who entered
2:20
2:20
Armchair Astronaut is one of the winning apps
2:20
2:21
Gym Box is another for workouts delivered on demand
2:21
2:21
We Draw is another app that looks fun. It’s like win lose or draw with your TV and smartphone.
2:21
2:21
And the winner is…
2:21
2:22
We Draw! The TV living room game.
2:22
2:22
Someone went crazy in the corner of the room.. I’m guessing that was the developer.
2:22
2:22
He’s up on stage now with one of those gigantic checks. Images coming folks, sorry for the delay.
2:22
2:22
I feel like I’m watching the winner of a PGA Tour game here.
2:22
2:23
Second place is Gym Box, and third is Armchair Astronaut. The people’s choice winner is Newmote Social listings.
2:23
2:23
“We think that was a pretty cool way to do things and what we’re doing in the developer community.”

2:23
2:23
And back to TVs
2:23
2:24
“This year we’re allowing touchscreens that allow you to watch two screens at once.”
