U.S. Cellular is running a promotion related to Valentine’s Day and this includes some solid deals like getting a buy-one-get-one-free deal for any of its Android-powered devices and this even includes the spiffy Galaxy Tab.
Of course, the U.S. Cellular promotion requires signing up for a two-year contract on each device but thanks to the company’s Belief Project, this could be the last long-term contract you have to sign with the carrier. Update: Just got word that those on the Belief Plan who are already eligible for an upgrade can get the free phones without even signing a contract.
As for the Galaxy Tab, if you pick up a pair, you’ll probably have to pay about $399 for two of them (excluding rebates and activation fees) and you’ll have to sign up for the $55 a month data plan for 5 GB of data. Before I went to < href="http://s06coeda4d.onrocket.site/category/ces-2011/">CES 2011, I would have thought that was a ridiculous amount to pay for mobile data on the Galaxy Tab but that Samsung tablet was my second-most used device behind the computer. Having it in my front blazer pocket and being constantly connected was such a convenience and it became a major productivity tool.
But maybe you’re not in the mood for the Galaxy Tab, the U.S. Cellular promotion also includes devices like the Mesmerize. This is the carrier’s variant of the Galaxy S, so you can expect this Android-powered phone to rock a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, 5-megapixel camera and more.
Other devices that will be included in this buy-one-get-one deal include the HTC Desire, LG Optimus U the LG Apex and Samsung Acclaim. U.S. Cellular will also be offering a $100 credit for smartphone activations for those who sign up with the Belief plans.
So, it’s nice to get a free phone or tablet but it’s important to remember that getting a smartphone will cost so much over the life of the contract that the initial price is just a drop in the bucket. But, if you’re ready for that smartphone plan, you might as well save as much as you can off the hardware.
