I’m a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy Tab but some users aren’t satisfied with the power of the device when there are dual-core processors coming in future tablets. Well, the wonderful cracker community at XDA has developed a kernal which will let you overclock your Galaxy Tab to 1.2 GHz.
This is an alpha code, so you have to be very, very careful about throwing this on your Android tablet. In fact, here’s the warning the developer put up:
WARNING: THIS KERNEL MAY NOT WORK ON YOUR DEVICE, MIGHT DESTROY YOUR DEVICE, MIGHT PUNCH YOUR CHILDREN, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY THIS KERNEL, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
The full instructions for getting an overclocked Samsung Galaxy Tab can be found here or at the via link, so I won’t dive too much into it., Needless to say, you need to have some experience with rooting devices and this is for the Sprint version only (for right now).
If the overclocked Samsung Galaxy Tab at 1.2 GHz isn’t enough power for you, you probably won’t have to wait too long to get some powerful, Android tablet goodness. The Motorola Xoom should hit the streets relatively soon and it will pack a dual-core Tegra 2 processor.
As for the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, we could see mentions of it as soon as next month’s Mobile World Congress. The device is expected to have a dual-core processor and it should also feature a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen.
So, I probably wouldn’t risk my Samsung tablet to get the overclocked 1.2 GHz processor but I’m a freaking wimp and I expect many of you to give it a go. The early comments are all pretty positive, so if you’re brave enough to try it, let us know how it turns out in the comments.
