FloodMap Mobile gives iPhone users access to flood hazard information

FloodMap Mobile, as you can imagine, is new app that’s all about providing users with flood hazard information. Using it you can determine the flood potential of some place (let’s say you want to purchase a property), estimate the cost of flood insurance, access summarized flood risk information from FEMA (authority on flood mapping) and so on.

The application can either get location data from the iPhone’s built-in GPS receiver or you can type the address manually. Then a map of the area’s FEMA-defined floodplains will be opened along with additional information and links to insurance agents, USGS and NOAA stream gauge records.

In other words, we’re talking about an app you pretty much need only if you or someone close is purchasing a property. You may want to install it on your shiny handset if that’s the case — otherwise, I don’t see a point of paying 2 bucks to have flood information on your phone all the time…
